Forty years ago, I was accompanying a group from Formica in Dublin. One of our (otherwise) charming guides was pointing out several pubs, including the Brazen Head (est. 1198) and praising the fact that those pubs still kept their good wooden bar surfaces, as they “hadn’t put in that dreadful Formi…” claps hand to mouth, turns crimson. The group, including the corporate host from Formica who was paying for the trip, thought it was hysterical!
