Nice history lesson. The revival of the growler supposedly started in CA in 1989 and has been used in states with brew pubs ever since.

I would suggest that there is an outside chance “growler” is related to “graal,” “grasal” an old French word meaning “bowl”. It’s the ancestor of “grail” as in the Holy Grail. Just a thought.
