    I love the term and even named my aerobatic flight school Barnstorm Aerobatics.
    My Uncle John was a late 30’s barnstormer and he said the original term came from traveling performers in the 19th century touring the country and staying overnight in barns. So, my interpretation is the early airshow performers also toured the country and performed, although they usually did not stay in a barn, however, they were known to occasionally disappear into a barn hay mound and enjoy some female companionship.
