I just happened upon your article as I was looking for the meaning of the phrase “Sleeper Jump”. I heard this phrase used in a movie, “Upper World” circa 1934,. and wondered what the meaning was. Thanks for the insightful article and the info on ADS.
The movie Sitting on the Moon – 1936 brought me here. The term “Sleeper jump” is used, I found the meaning here. I think “sleeper jump” sounds cool and wish it was used today.

An old Bob Hope & Dorothy Lamour movie “My Favorite Brunette” is a favorite of mine.
He says, “This place was practically a sleeper jump from town.” (San Francisco)
I figured out that it meant a long distance… But appreciate the real meaning of the term.
THANKS

The line appears in Juvenile Jungle – 1958 – “Peter’s a kid and he lives a sleeper-jump out in the sticks.” Here used to say he lives a long way out.
